Description
The Wildcard is an unpredictable, limited offering that either won’t become part of our regular lineup, or might be the first few roasts of a new release as we figure out the desired roast profile.
Each batch will be different and we wont necessarily always have the Wildcard available.
The release of the wild card has a dual purpose:
1) It allows us to recoup costs from:
– samples we purchased and won’t be keeping.
– The first few roasts of a new release, as we get it properly dialed in.
2) It makes coffee available to you at a much lower price.
These beans are one-offs, perfect for those who love surprises in their coffee experience or don’t mind a roast that perhaps wasn’t as perfect.
Once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.
Please note: We will never disclose which coffee is in the Wildcard, but it will always be something we sourced and roasted with the notion of adding it to the store.

I’m a student with really tight funds but I’ve been drinking specialty for the last ~4 years and so it is a staple in my everyday life. Unfortunately coffee prices have been steep the last year due to global supply and so I haven’t been able to buy a lot of coffee.
I stumbled upon the Wild Card while browsing for coffees that I know I can’t afford and I knew I had to give it a shot given the price.
Wow! Whatever I just cupped was phenomenal. Low acidity, alongside what I’d say are raisin(?) notes. Reminds me of a fruit & nut chocolate bar. It honestly outperforms the few R200+ coffees I’ve had this year and I’m so happy to have bought it.
To the Gegrond team – thanks for making this available to us. And if whatever you sent me on 18 June was a roast from a sample lot, I suggest you put in an order 😉

Hey Luke! So glad you loved the Wildcard!
I guess the only unfortunate thing regarding it is that it’ll always be different, but that being said there’s been some incredible coffees that ended up in those bags, and I’m sure there will be more of them in the future!
