Colombia Whiskey Barrel Aged

(5 customer reviews)

Price range: R170.00 through R630.00

This unique coffee showcases the innovation of Colombian producer Andres Mauricio, who has perfected the art of barrel aging since 2018. Inspired by Manizales’ history of coffee and liquor production, Andres experimented with aging coffee in whiskey barrels, drawing influence from local rum producers like Licorera de Caldas.

The coffee is fully washed and then aged for 2 months in used whiskey barrels, a process that enhances sweetness and complexity. The high altitudes and cooler climate of the Caldas region allow for a slower aging process, preserving the integrity and character of the beans.

This particular lot is a blend of various varietals and farms from the Manizales area and is available year-round, thanks to Colombia’s staggered harvest periods.

Andres’ background in agronomy, genetics, and over 15 years with CENICAFE ensures a refined, meticulously crafted product.

Tasting notes:
Red grape, green apple, stone fruit, dark chocolate, whiskey, and a slightly woody finish.

I’m afraid this coffee just didn’t work for us. The whiskey oak flavour is so strong that it completely overshadows the actual coffee flavour as well as smell.

    • Frederik

Hi Gracie! thanks for the honest review!
definitely a love it or hate it coffee. the Whiskey is quite up front, but the sweetness and fruity notes also shines through. wish you could taste it as a flat white 🤤

One of the best coffee I have ever had..so good I bought it twice…great for milk based drinks.

it truly shines with milk based drinks.

Hi Frederik. I do drink coffee only as flat white with Macadamia milk. My husband drinks with normal dairy and we both found it to be very overpowering. I put the bag inside my coffee bar and the aroma was so overwhelming that I had to remove it. I just can’t smell or taste coffee. As you said, it’s either love it or hate it. Thanks for your integrity. God bless your business.

50% pouring cream 50% milk stir to mix and then steam. These beans turn a Flat White into a virgin Irish Coffee delight.

  5. Ryan

Don’t know why people are crying about whiskey flavour when they buy a whiskey coffee. This coffee is insane good. Whiskey definitely quite upfront so good for something like a flat white. I don’t even like whiskey, but this stuff is good. Definitely not something id drink very often but a 250g bag in between my 1kg other coffees I devour is great.
